MIT Sloan MBA Application

The MIT MBA admissions team evaluates each candidate’s application as a whole.  Let’s take a look at some important parts of the MIT business school application:

1. GMAT/GRE Scores

MIT Sloan requires scores for either the GMAT or the GRE, however, no preference is given to either test.  Again, the average GMAT score for this school is 720. As stated above, there is a range of acceptable GMAT and GRE scores.

2. Video Statement

MIT is unique in that it has a video statement.  This is your opportunity to introduce yourself to your future classmates and tell the admissions committee about your experiences that have led you to this point in your career. Tell the admissions committee why MIT Sloan is the best place for you.

3. Interview

Interviews at MIT are by invitation only. If you are invited to interview, it means that your application is at an advanced stage of consideration. This is a time for the admissions committee to get to know you but it is also your opportunity to ask questions about the program and decide if the program is a good fit for you. The MIT MBA admissions team will try to gauge the following

  • Leadership potential
  • Motivations for applying to Sloan
  • How do you handle difficult situations?
  • What will you bring to the table?
4. Recommendations

You are required to submit one letter of recommendation. Ideally, this should be a professional recommendation and should come from someone who knows you well enough to discuss your professional performance and leadership potential. You must also provide contact information for two additional references, however, they do not have to fill out the recommendation form online. When selecting your recommenders, keep in mind that they will need to provide detailed answers to questions about you.

MIT Sloan prides itself on creating well-rounded managers and leaders through experiential learning. After your first core semester, you can choose electives to tailor your MBA experience to fit your needs. There are also global travel experiences. MIT’s experiential learning allows students to collaborate with each other as well as faculty members to solve critical business problems.

The MIT Sloan application process can be overwhelming. If you are interested in this competitive school, you will need to make your application stand out. It is often difficult to have your personality and goals resonate throughout your application. If you need assistance, Solomon Admissions can provide guidance through the entire process.
