SAT & ACT Prep Timeline Details

Tutoring Structure & Timing

SAT/ACT tutoring is customized for each student, but typically follows a structured progression focused on skill development, practice, and review.

Example Tutoring Progression

While each student’s tutoring plan is customized, an initial block of tutoring often follows a progression similar to the example below:

  • Diagnostic review, goal setting, and study plan development
Tutors review prior test results and student performance to identify priority areas and establish a clear plan.
  • Strategy instruction with targeted practice assignments
Instruction focuses on how the SAT or ACT is designed, paired with practice that reinforces efficient approaches.
  • Review of assigned work and error pattern identification
Tutors analyze mistakes to uncover recurring issues and adjust focus accordingly.
  • Skill gap remediation, pacing, and timing strategies
Sessions address content gaps and test-day execution, including time management.
  • Progress check and next-step planning
Tutors assess progress and refine the plan based on upcoming test dates.

Timing Guidance

We recommend beginning SAT or ACT tutoring at least 2–3 months before the test date to allow sufficient time for instruction, practice, and adjustment. Students seeking support around one month before a test date can often be accommodated, depending on availability and needs. Requests within two weeks of a test date may not be a good fit.
