Personal Essay for Scholarship Applicants
We want to get to know what you are passionate about and what makes you tick. The personal essay gives us insight into who you are and the type of impact you will have in the future beyond just your grades and achievements.
Please choose ONE of the three prompts below, and respond to it in 650 words or less.
1. Solomon Scholars make a social impact, whether it be in the classroom or outside of the classroom. Reflect on a time when you took on a personally meaningful challenge and made an impact. What was the outcome? How did the experience shape your values?
2. Solomon Scholars are a diverse group, representing many different ethnicities, religions, upbringings, socioeconomic backgrounds and sexual orientations. How has your diverse background shaped your values and beliefs? How will it continue to shape you as you move forward?
3. Solomon Scholars gain strength from facing obstacles and overcoming them. Reflect on a time when you faced personal hardship, adversity or failure. How did the setback affect you? What did you learn from the experience?
